Hare and Tortoise is a retelling of a Aesop’s fable. I added a few quirks to bring it up to date. I found a lovely review of it recently here’s an excerpt from it …
Alison Murray adds new threads to the timeless fabric of this tale repeatedly with great effect. In acquainting us with Hare and Tortoise prior to the race focusing on the characteristics of one and drawing our attention to the absence of those same traits in the other, our anticipation is heightened. This approach also provides Murray with the opportunity to supply liberal doses of humor. Allowing Hare and Tortoise to comment within the body of the story enriches this version.

Some more kind words …
“It’s hard to tell a well-known tale in a fresh, new way, but Alison Murray accomplishes that in her version of these famous competitors … A friendly ending wraps up this excellent piece of bookmaking and reminds us there is more to life than winning-maybe a shared lettuce patch?” (Book List)
“An absolutely successful retelling of the classic tale; great for storytimes and recommended for any fable collection” (School Library Journal)

And a lovely five star customer review on Amazon …
“My 2 year old adores this book, knows all the words and asks for it every bedtime. The illustrations are like watercolour and really spark the imagination. The race course is on the front and back inside covers and you can really feel the energy of the hare racing and the tortoise tootling. The story is nicely written with some lovely but not over the top repetition. Completely our favourite family story”
